Hatching Chicks

Children’s Mental Health Week
7th February 2021

The children had the wonderful opportunity to experience the hatching of some chicken eggs for our spring topic.

We received 10 eggs that stayed in the incubator few days  and the first hatched on 17.03.2021 – this baby chick worked really hard to break out of his shell and was making lots of little chirping sounds. We were so lucky to have 9 baby chicks hatch altogether.

The children learnt lots of new words and how to care for the baby chicks carefully. Some children helped to prepare the brooder box, which is where the chicks lived for a week. Everyday the children would be really excited to see if the chicks had changed and grown some feathery wings.

After 10 days and a lovely experience, they all went off to live at a farm with lots of other chickens.

Thank You
